Brian Tong debuted in 2016 with his first studio album, 「memento」, which was a musical diary of his journey through college life. His first live performance was 「memento」Spring 2016 Premium LIVE held at the Little Theater at St. John's University in Queens, New York, featuring tracks from his debut album.
Having taken a break since his debut in 2016, Brian re-emerged with a new project in July 2018: 「amethyst」. 「amethyst」was a cover-song concert held by Brian at Keiko Studios in New York City, and also the title of his newest instrumental piano piece. It was a reflective project, reminiscing on the music that had inspired Brian throughout his childhood and adolescence and eventually into adulthood.
Brian gets his musical inspiration largerly from the Japanese unit, Kalafina, consisting of three singers: Wakana, Keiko, and Hikaru. A heavy influence from Kalafina's sound is heard in Brian's music, as it was Kalafina's music that inspired Brian to sing, and eventually to write music. FictionJunction, Evanescence, Lady Gaga, and Christina Perri stand alongside Kalafina as being Brian's greatest musical influences.
Brian's goal with music is to touch the souls of his listeners not with words, but with music. He wishes to open the spiritual eyes of his audience to reflect, through music, upon their life and their surroundings.
